Plan your Class 9 Maths revision
The eight chapters sit inside five strands of mathematics. Knowing which strand your chapter belongs to helps you group revision sessions:
- Numbers — Chapter 3.
- Algebra — Chapters 2 and 4.
- Coordinate geometry — Chapter 1.
- Geometry and measurement — Chapters 5 and 6.
- Chance and patterns — Chapters 7 and 8.
A useful study order follows what builds on what:
- Start with The World of Numbers (Chapter 3), because every other chapter uses number work.
- Move to the algebra pair — Introduction to Linear Polynomials (Chapter 2) and Exploring Algebraic Identities (Chapter 4).
- Do Orienting Yourself (Chapter 1) next, because coordinate geometry uses algebra.
- Then cover figures and measurement — Chapter 5 (lines and circles) and Chapter 6 (perimeter and area).
- Leave Probability (Chapter 7) and Sequences (Chapter 8) for last; they stand alone.
One warning: do not judge a chapter by its name. A playful title like I’m Up and Down, and Round and Round still carries exam material — it covers lines and circles. Read the description under each row before you choose.
Also note that the current NCERT edition arranges Class 9 content in fewer chapters than older editions did. The names here differ from older books, so follow this eight-chapter list for revision instead of working from memory of an old edition.

Do these notes replace the NCERT textbook for Class 9 Mathematics?
No. These notes explain each idea in plain words, while the NCERT textbook carries the official exercise numbers and problem statements. Use both together.
Why does the chapter list look different from older NCERT editions of Class 9 Maths?
The current NCERT edition rearranged the same content into fewer chapters, so the chapter names changed. Follow the eight-chapter list on this page rather than an older book’s contents.
In what order should I study these Class 9 Maths chapters for revision?
