If you are revising under time pressure, cover Chapters 3 and 9 before Chapters 12–13, because the numerical methods from Current Electricity and Ray Optics keep coming back later.

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Mixing the two Kirchhoff rules — the junction rule is about current; the loop rule is about potential.
  • Dropping the 4πε₀ denominator in Coulomb’s law — keep k = 1/(4πε₀) in place for every point-charge problem.
  • Losing sign conventions in the lens formula — fix a sign rule and apply it every time.
  • Confusing interference and diffraction — interference uses a few sources; diffraction comes from a single slit.
  • Forgetting photoelectric behaviour — photoelectric current changes with intensity, while stopping potential changes with frequency.

Mnemonic for the EM Spectrum

Chapter 8 lists the electromagnetic spectrum in this order: radio, microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-ray, gamma. Keep it with the first letters: Ravi Made Indian Vada, Uncle X-rays Gamma.
