An average is the chapter’s marks in every question-paper set of a course (a paper of 80 marks; an internal choice counts once), divided by the number of those sets. A question printed in several sets counts once in “Questions asked”. About 16.88 marks (Standard) and 14.69 marks (Basic) in each set come from questions not yet placed under one chapter, so the chapter averages do not add up to 80 (see Marks by unit).
Topics CBSE asked most, across the book
These are the 10 NCERT sections with the most different questions in the 2023–2026 board papers. Check the marks breakdown to see how CBSE tested each section: sections with many 3-mark and 5-mark questions (such as 9.1 Heights and Distances and 8.4 Trigonometric Identities) carry the heaviest long-answer weight. The table is sorted by the number of different questions, not by marks.

Marks by unit
The average marks each NCERT unit carried per question-paper set, counted from the questions on these pages, next to the marks CBSE gives each unit in its theory paper of 80 marks. CBSE sets the official marks in its Class X Mathematics curriculum for 2026-27 (a PDF file on cbseacademic.nic.in). These counts describe past papers; they are not predictions.
| Unit | Official CBSE weightage (out of 80) | Average marks per set, Standard (041) | Average marks per set, Basic (241) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number Systems | 6 | 4.53 | 4.84 |
| Algebra | 20 | 13.68 | 14.25 |
| Geometry | 15 | 10.9 | 11.97 |
| Coordinate Geometry | 6 | 4.43 | 4.73 |
| Trigonometry | 12 | 11.11 | 10.72 |
| Mensuration | 10 | 8.93 | 8.39 |
| Statistics and Probability | 11 | 9.41 | 10.25 |
| Questions not yet placed under one chapter | – | 16.88 | 14.69 |
| Whole question-paper set (every question) | 80 | 79.87 | 79.84 |
The unit rows add up to less than the whole set because about 16.88 marks (Standard) and 14.69 marks (Basic) in each set come from questions not yet placed under one chapter. Those questions are counted in the last two rows, so each column adds up to the whole set.
Most repeated questions across chapters
The questions CBSE printed in the most question-paper sets across 2023–2026. These counts describe past papers; no question is sure to come again.
Prove that \(\sqrt{5}\) is an irrational number.
Prove that \(\sqrt{3}\) is an irrational number.
Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, then prove that the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
Prove that \(\sqrt{2}\) is an irrational number.
Standard or Basic?
CBSE Class 10 Mathematics has two course codes: Mathematics Standard (041) and Mathematics Basic (241). Of the 2258 distinct questions counted here, 25 were printed in the papers of both courses.
Sources and data verification
The counts come from 120 CBSE Class 10 Mathematics question-paper sets (62 Standard, 58 Basic) in 7 exam sittings. A question printed in several sets counts once.
CBSE settles the question papers, the marking schemes and the syllabus. NCERT settles the textbook: chapter and section names follow NCERT Mathematics Class X (reprint 2026-27).
